Designer Wedding Cakes
As a cake designer Joy loves drawing inspiration from your wedding dress, stationery and flowers to create a personalized cake that will be unique and set to your personal style.
Each cake is made with love and attention to detail, using only the finest and freshest ingredients and indulgent flavour combinations that is sure to have your guests wanting more.
Sweet joy is a small business of just two people (Karin and Joy), we give a personal touch to each artwork that we send out and for this reason we rarely take on more than two wedding cakes a weekend, one if the design is elaborate and time-consuming. Booking ahead is essential if you wish for us to make your wedding cake.
Each of our artistic designer cakes are handmade and layered with your choice of delicious filling and masked in a thick layer of white or dark chocolate ganache that ensures that the cake is sturdy and protected.
Cakes are covered with a high-quality fondant for a smooth finish.
All decorations and sugar flowers are hand made by Sweet Joy herself.
As soon as you have decided on your venue and decor the next step is booking a cake tasting and choosing your wedding cake, it may seem early but many bakers only take on a few cakes a week so they are easily booked up quite quickly. I would say book your cake decorated as soon as you can to ensure she is available to make your cake.
Sure you can, if you have a 3 tier cake, you can choose 3 flavours but remember your guest might want a taste of each flavour so extra portions may be needed.
With venues including desserts in their packages these days many brides have chosen to serve the cake after the ceremony, I love this option because for so many reason, 1. You can save money on canapes, 2: The cake gets seen and enjoyed because its daylight and everyone is still hungry and maybe even a little emotional so they want cake. 3: Left over cake can be served with coffee after the wedding so there is no waste, just serve left over cake later. 4: Your cake doesnt stay out too long, especially if you have a naked or buttercream cake, you don't want your cake to dry out.
However, if you do choose to serve your cake with your dessert or even as a dessert that is great too, the cake gets admired the whole night.
As a cake designer I love the control of adding sugar flowers to my cake designs. I love sugar flowers for a number of reasons: 1: They don't wilt on your big day. 2. You can customize the size and colour to the wedding, some flowers only appear in certain sizes and colours in nature but with sugar we can let our imaginations go wild. 3: Sugar Flowers last forever, seriously unless the get wet, they will last for a very long time as a beautiful moment. 4: No bugs or pesticides in your cake, Yes we clean the flowers before they go on the cake but every now and then a little bug comes out of nowhere, fresh flowers are unfortunately a home for these little critters. 5. Some flowers are poisoness, like succulents for instance so to be save, its better to go with sugar.
When choosing sugar flowers you need to make sure you choose a designer who can actually deliver, it is a skill that takes an artistic hand and years of practice so choose you cake decorated wisely.
